Robert “Trey” Fruend, 15, was featured in BJC Today for his collecting more than 2,000 books for children and teens of patients at Siteman Cancer Center! Trey is a freshman at Ladue Horton Watkins High School.

The fundraising was a part of Trey’s Eagle Scout project, which he chose because of his personal connection with the topic. When Robert was 8 years old, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and received treatment at Siteman. Trey knows what it feels like to have a parent go through the difficult process, and he wanted to find a way to give back to families like his.

The books that Trey collected are on display on the seventh floor of the Center for Advanced Medicine. These books are for patients to borrow, take home and read to their children and grandchildren between treatments.

Trey said he would like to thank the Ladue community for the support and fantastic book donations!
