On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, the Ladue Middle School’s Diversity Cadre sponsored its 13th African-American Recognition night, which was designed to showcase African-American students’ talents and celebrate their accomplishments in the areas of academics, citizenship and school involvement.
Certificates were issued for academics, citizenship, attendance, and service/school involvement. Several students’ vocal, instrumental and artistic talents were spotlighted, as well. This year, Sydney Patterson and Omar Thurman were named the Diversity Cadre Students of the Year!
“Our students and parents were honored to have their accomplishments celebrated tonight,” Principal Tiffany Taylor-Johnson said. “This program continues to grow each year; the talent displayed was some of the best we’ve seen and heard!”
The guest speaker, 12-year-old Sidney Keys, III, shared with the students about his love of reading and how he became inspired to help others find a love of reading through Books N Bros, a reading club he created that encourages literacy within Black Culture & African American Literature!
